Show #25 with Alison Prestwood, session and touring Nashville bassist and now an attorney! She has some great stories about playing with a bunch of different folks. Headed to a gig with Shawn Colvin on the Tonight Show, hay bales on stage before a Rodney Crowell concert, and many other stories make for an entertaining show.

Ralph Taylor had me on his radio show on July 7, 2011. I played some songs and told some stories, talked about my songwriting process. Ralph and i became great friends soon after this meeting. Seems like we had known each other for many years instead of a few minutes. Ralph does the show every Monday from 6 to 7 PM EST and you can check it out on the web site: http://www.brenau.edu/.
We talked about songwriting, Berklee, Steve Vai, guitars, David Wilcox, Kerrville Festival, Planet Bluegrass, my local gigs like Brookwood Grill and Goldfish, world travel and a whole bunch of other stuff.
It was a great time!

Brian Ashley Jones is a really great singer songwriter musician whose music covers a bunch of styles and venues. Brian is at home playing blues, jazz, Americana and a bunch of other stuff. He talks about working with Donna Hopkins and songwriting. It’s an interesting road he’s been on and continues to travel! He currently is touring with Tisha Simeral, who is a fantastic bassist. One interesting aspect of this conversation is the idea of working in different markets to keep the schedule full – a different take on multiple income streams.

I talked to Michael Wynne, producer, engineer, teacher, composer, songwriter, vocalist, tech guru. Michael teaches at AIM inspiring others to become a Pro Tools whiz. We talked about the ipad, iphone, Reason software, Seven Day Fool, AT 4033 and Shure SM7B microphones and a bunch of other stuff. What’s happening in the music business and where do you see it headed? Michael once told me there is more music in video than there is in recording bands and singer songwriters.

In this episode I talk to John McVey, a very talented musician, songwriter, producer. His full time job is producing and engineering in a studio called Coupe Studios and he has just released his third CD called “Unpredictable.” The conversation really took off on a journey and while I expected we’d talk about gear and writing and recording, we ended up going to a number of other interesting ideas.

In this episode I talk with my lifelong friend Tom Owens. Tom is a talented musician and composer who plays brass instruments and guitars and records his own music. Tom talks about being into music as a hobby. Music is a huge love for him but he has chosen not to depend on it for a living. After the podcast he talked about a concept of rhythmic dissonance. I wish it had been included but basically it refers to having two musical figures that are similar but not exact, play against each other – for example a figure with a bunch of dotted eighths in a row is sort of similar to a triplet and when you play the two against each other it is an interesting poly-rhythmic sound. He uses it extensively in his tune “Cheese and Crackers.”
