pretty good gig #34 with Bill Kahler, May 3, 2013

May 3rd, 2013

March 2012 I was diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma. Quite a shock especially since I felt fine in January. Middle of February I was under the weather and thought I had a virus. I’ve been told that’s the way it usually starts for many people. Eventually blood tests showed my blood cells were really screwed up, to say the least!

It’s been a long trip and I’m happy to say I’m coming back!

So that’s the reason there have been no new podcasts in quite a while! Pretty good excuse eh?

I’d like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff who helped me get through it at Northside Hospital, Atlanta, GA.

Also would like to thank a few folks very close to me:
* My wife Marita. She was an angel, taking care of me and keeping the house going through the last year. Couldn’t have made it through without her.
* My son Justin Kahler. He volunteered to be tested before knowing anything about what was entailed of a donor.
* My good bud James Casto. He was the friend who was constantly there – phone calls nearly every single day, hospital visits, rides. He also helped my friends the Gillans organize a benefit which was an incredible help.

pretty good gig #32 with Jody Worrell, guitarist, teacher, May 5, 2012

May 5th, 2012

Jody Worrell is a great guitarist in the Atlanta area and a wonderful teacher. He teaches locally as well as through Skype lessons and can be contacted through freeguitarvideos.com. I’ve been listening to Jody since the early 80′s and our conversation just barely sctratched the surface. Hopefully we’ll be able to do a second podcast sometime in the future.

We talked about lessons, gigs, guitars. amps, pedals, etc.

Jody has a book available:
“Let’s Jam Blues Standards” Cd and Book by Jody Worrell contains jam tracks for The Thrill is Gone, Pride and Joy, Smokestack Lightnin’, and seven more of the most famous blues songs ever written. The book provides the chord charts and progression for each song, as well as extra pages of manuscript and tab paper for your notes. We’ve also included the tab for a suggested scale and lick on every song. Let’s Jam Blues Standards makes it easy to practice playing classic blues tunes when you don’t have other musicians around. The tracks contain rhythm guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, with space for you to play along.
If you would like one,the price is $15 plus $3 shipping….($8 shipping if international…)
